How to Prepare for a Breast Exam and Breast Examinations at Viera Diagnostic Center

Saturday, July 28, 2012

If you’re undergoing a breast exam, there are only a few pointers you need to know about in order to prepare for the examination. Since the tests will require you to undress from waist up, it is recommended for you to wear two piece clothing such as jeans at the bottom and a button blouse on top. It will be easier for you to simply unbutton a blouse as compared to undressing when wearing a full dress or a t-shirt. The use of deodorants, powder, cream, body lotion, and other products applied on the underarms is not recommended.

As with all other medical tests, preparation also includes having an ample amount of rest before the actual examination day. Thus, a good night’s sleep the night before the test is advised. In any case, avoid stress and fatigue before undergoing an exam as these may actually affect the results of the test. Eating properly and avoiding certain pills or medications may also be recommended.

At Viera Diagnostic Center, we use only advanced technology equipments for various breast examinations. We use Digital Mammography for breast X-Rays and the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System for breast biopsies. The former applies a special type of X-Ray for breasts in order to detect small cancers long before they are diagnosed by a physician. The latter on the other hand is a product of Ethicon Endo-Surgery (a Johnson & Johnson company) and is vital in assisting physicians to find breast abnormalities and collect tissue samples for further diagnosis of breast diseases.

The Mammotome Breast Biopsy System is different from usual breast biopsy procedures because it is minimally invasive and needs only ¼ inch of incision. It is completed in less than an hour under anesthesia to minimize discomfort.

At Viera Diagnostic Center, we make sure that you are comfortable with any type of breast examination. Our Women’s Center is tailored to make women at ease with medical diagnostic testing. Designated dressing areas and waiting areas are separate to allow women the privacy they need.
